Medical and Preventative
Diabetes Evaluations – We work with your primary doctor to protect your health. Regular eye examinations are important both to safeguard your vision and to inform your primary doctor of the condition of your ocular blood vessels as it pertains to your overall condition.
High Blood Pressure Evaluations – High blood pressure can negatively affect your vision. Just as important, our exam provides valuable information to your primary physician regarding whether your current blood pressure control is adequate to lower your risk of heart disease and stroke.
Macular Degeneration and Other Diseases of the Retina – Macular degeneration is the leading cause of legal blindness in the United States. Early detection of this and other conditions that affect the retina is important because steps may be taken to avoid or limit loss of vision in many cases.
Glaucoma Screening – The incidence and prevalence of glaucoma increases with age. Visual loss can be profound and there are no early symptoms. All adults need to be screened for glaucoma because early treatment can preserve good vision.
Uveitis – Inflammation of the inner eye is a common condition treated at the Franklin Eye Center. Often, our doctors will arrange testing and follow up with your primary medical doctor to evaluate and treat associated systemic conditions.
External Eye Disease – The surface of the eye is subject to many problems including conjunctivitis due to infection or allergy. Most are easily diagnosed and treated.
Dry Eye Treatments – Both internal and external factors can lead to dry eyes. Symptoms range from discomfort and eye strain to loss of vision. Treatments are rapidly improving for this common condition.
Ocular Allergy – Redness, irritation, swelling, itching, and tearing are characteristic. Effective treatment depends on accurate diagnosis and subsequent monitoring.
Ocular Manifestations of Systematic Diseases – Many systemic diseases and conditions affect the eyes. Ocular examination is important to evaluate disease activity. Patients with endocrine problems such as diabetes or thyroid disease, cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure, rheumatological conditions such as arthritis, lupus, or sarcoidosis, neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis or myasthenia gravis, skin diseases, and infections can all benefit from ocular assessment and supplementary treatment.
